Software can be called the dynamic part of a device and the invariable part of the hardware. Software is often divided into application software (working users are specifically involved in programs) and system software (including operating systems and any application software supporting program). Sometimes the term middleware is used to describe programming that mediates between application and process software or between two different types of application software (e.g. sending a remote work request from an application on a computer that has one type of operating system to an application on a computer with another operating system).
